Patrick Maume, 'Fenianism as a global phenomenon: Thomas O'Malley Baines, Papal soldier and Fenian convict' in C. Graham and L. Litvack [Eds.] Ireland and Europe in the Nineteenth Century. Society for the Study of Nineteenth Century Ireland, 10 (Dublin: Four Courts Press, 2006) pp 148-159
Abstract
Note: The author would like to note that their deduction that Baines might have been a member of the Dublin Fenian circle which assassinated informers and that his reference to a particular killing with approval and description of the perpetrators as "Fenian detectives" might mean that he was one of them, was mistaken; Since the paper was published the author has realised that Baines had been arrested some time earlier for trying to recruit soldiers as Fenians, and he was in prison when the killing took place.
